The City of San Diego is huge. It extends from the hills of Rancho Bernardo almost 30 miles south to the border of National City. A variety of economic subsets exist, and urban planning has always been a major challenge. Metro San Diego starts at Banker’s Hill, just north of Interstate 5, and continues through Hillcrest, University Heights, North Park, South Park, Normal Heights, Kensington, City Heights and Talmadge. At the end of this stretch lies the SDSU Campus. Northbound, the most notable areas are Linda Vista, Clairemont Mesa and Mira Mesa, where you’ll find sprawling housing developments built throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s. At the very top, you’ll find Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Bernardo. These affluent neighborhoods are the epitome of San Diego lifestyle. Rancho Bernardo is often referred to as RB, and is home to Rancho Bernardo Inn. It was made famous for idyllic retirement living, golf courses and perfect tile roofs as far as the eye can see.
